Tropidoderus childrenii in Flight |
Creation 28 |
One of two iterations meant to be the concluding models of my flying stick insect design, I chose to model this insect because of its distinct features and delicate elegance. Native to Australia, Tropidoderus childrenii, or the Children's Stick Insect, lives off of eucalyptus leaves.
In designing the CP, I tried to keep in mind Brian Chan's elegant circle packings and also hybridize that with just enough box pleating to get the wing and abdomen details I wanted. I feel I succeeded in doing this perhaps besides the elegant part. Although I was very happy with this model at first, I ended up deciding to add the challenge of creating a closed underbelly and more foldable CP. A second variation is in progress. |
